This tutorial assumes you are familiar with your version of PSP and know where your tools are located. Workspaces can differ, therefore the screenshots and directions for the location of the tools used may not be accurate in your workspace. If you have problems finding a particular tool, use the program's help file and type the tool name into the "find" window.

Be sure to read my TOU before working this tutorial.

Supplies Needed:
XmasDragon_AS.zip (The dragon tube I used. I didn't tube it. Extract it to a folder of your choice. Thanks goes to Lisa-Anne for supplying the © information on it. Please visit Rob Carlos' wonderful site to support him and to see more great artwork!)
Cybia Screen Works ->Light Guaze (freeware) Place in your plugins folder.
Toadies Ommadawn (Freeware. *NOTE* if you have the FF filters, you may find Ommadawn filter under FF Galery V. It is the same filter ;)

1. Open the XmasDragon_AS image. Hold down the Shift key and hit D to duplicate the window. Close the original dragon image for safe keeping.

2. Go to Image -> Canvas Size and use the following settings. (We will crop later. If you are using a different tube, just be sure to expand your canvas enough to give yourself plenty of room to work.)

3. Go to Layers -> New Raster Layer and name it "white".

4. Go to Layers -> Arrange -> Send to bottom.

5. Flood fill the "white" layer with white.

6. (If you're using the dragon image I supplied) Right click on the "merged" layer and rename to "gauze". (Rename your tube layer if using another image.)

7. Right click on the "guaze" layer and choose duplicate.

8. Rename the copy to "dragon" (or tube if different)

8. Hide the "dragon" layer by click the eye icon in the layer palette. Activate the "gauze" layer by clicking on it once in the layer palette.

9. Go to Effects ->Plugins ->Toadies (or FF V) -> Ommadawn. Use the default settings. (Cell width=17; Cell height=16; Cell "A"=234; Cell Edges=17)

10. Go to Effects ->Plugins ->Cybia ->Screenworks and choose Light Gauze in the drop down menu. Use the default settings. (Mode=0)

11. Go to Colors ->Adjust Brightness & Contrast (or Shift + B) and set the Brightness to 30. Set the Contrast to 20.

12. Unhide "Dragon" layer.

13. Go to Image ->Resize. Resize 85% Resampe using Bicubic and be sure Resize all layers is NOT checkeed.

14. Go to Effects ->Sharpness ->Sharpen.

15. Grab your crop tool. Hide the "white" layer.

16. Click on the "merged opaque" icon in the tool options:

17. Double click in the crop area.

***TIP ALERT*** Before doing a final save, you can go to Image ->Image Information and click on the "Creator Information" tab. In the description field, add the tutorial url (and other info, such as font used). Then save as a psp file. That information is saved along with the image. The next time you say (to yourself, of course...) "I wish I could remember where that tut is, you will have the information available in the image itself. Cool, huh?

Add your text however you like to make yourself a tag and export as a gif or jpg.

That's it. You're all done. :) Hope you learned something fun and new by working this tutorial. :)
