This project was done in PSP v9. I'm
pretty sure that it can be done in v8. It cannot be done
in earlier versions.
Supplies Needed:
Super Blade Pro
And my supplies Here
Zipped supplies include: 2
swatches created by myself - extract them to your
swatches folder. 2 Gradients-extract to your Gradient
folder. (These gradients belong to these
swatches. Swatches won't work without them. The emerald
gradient I created, the other gradient came from here) 2 SBP presets -
extract them to the "environments and textures"
folder. The l-m-diamonesque preset came
from Lady Magika, site no longer online. The other
preset, I'm not sure where the original
preset came from, but I altered it for this
project. The original preset had the prefix of SB- to it
and I'd love to give credit, but don't know whom to
credit. :o/ Font:
Frankenstien - extract to folder of your
choice, open and minimize so that it is available to
PSP. Font from www.grsites.com Medium Sparkle tube
- extract to a folder of your choice, import as a tube
if you choose. Made by
me.
A little explanation about swatches
before we get started. In all the PSP tutorials I've
seen on the internet, I've never saw one that uses
swatches in it's supplies. I thought it about time to
introduce them as supply objects... Some folks
aren't familiar with swatches at all. This is one
very handy aspect of PSP. Any type of
material you can use as a fill can be saved as a swatch
for future use. Here is where your swatches are:
 as
you can see, I have many swatches :oP I reuse uncommon
colors like "neon pink" and "honeydew" that aren't
easily found in the rainbow palette of
colors.
When you extract the swatches from the
supply zip above to your swatches folder, those swatches
will then be in your swatch palette, making them easily
and readily available with a click of the mouse. Notice
the little black arrow below the color or "swatch"
blocks: clicking on it will show you more swatches that
may be available. Hovering your mouse over one of those
swatch blocks will show you details about it. I do not
recommend sharing swatches made of patterns. Color and
gradient swatches are very easily shared and I've
decided to incorporate this bit of information into this
tutorial, to teach you a little about the swatch panel
of the materials palette. Oh, one more thing
- if you're like me and don't like those funky
swatches that came with PSP, you can always click on
that trash can icon and delete them. :oP Deleting them
sends them to your recycle bin, so if you've change your
mind and want them back, you can restore from the bin,
as long as you didn't empty the bin, that is.
;) It has been brought to my attention that
some aren't able to see the swatches correctly in their
materials palette (script error). Please be sure that
you extract BOTH of the gradient files
above, and also be sure that you are viewing ALL
swatches as shown in the screenshot above. The
gradients I provide belong to the swatches, and the
swatches won't work correctly without these
2 gradients.
Now...on to the tutorial. Don't forget
to save often as a PSP file.
1. Begin by creating a new image:
400x200px, 72ppi, Transparent, Raster, 16mil colors.
2. Grab your floodfill tool and then
locate the emerald-satin-grad_aagm swatch in your swatch
panel. Left click on it
to set it as your foreground/fill property.
3. Locate the white_satin_lace_grad-aagm
in your swatch panel and
right click on it to
set it as your background/fill property.
4. Left click on
your canvas to flood fill Raster 1 layer with the
emerald gradient. I know, it's green...we'll get there
;-)
5. Go to Image/Mirror.
6. Add a layer. Still using your
floodfill tool, right click on
the canvas to floodfill with the white satin lace
gradient. (If you're having problems flood
filling the entire layer, be sure that your Match Mode
is set to NONE, Blend Mode set to NORMAL and Opacity set
to 100. I get email all the time concerning
this.)
7. Add a layer and set it's blend mode
to "Color (Legacy)"

8. Flood fill the layer with the color
#FFB8DA. Now it's all "prettily" pink. Cool, huh?
9. Grab your text tool. Set your
foreground color to white, and your background color to
null. Set your font
properties as so:
 I
know the leading is showing something...but it should
say 0. :oP I forgot to change it before
screenshot.
10. Type your name or whatever you like.
Please note that with the frankenstein font, lower case
letters look best. If it doesn't fit on the canvas,
change your size down a little - but not too
much or the gaps will close up giving you an
undesireable look later on.
11. Go to the menu and
Objects/Align/Center in Canvas.
12. Right click on Vector 1 layer in the
layer palette and duplicate.
13. Hide the Copy of Vector 1 layer by
clicking on the glasses beside it in the layer
palette.
14. Right click on the Vector 1 layer in
the layer palette and choose "Convert to Raster
Layer".
15. Go to Selections/Select All. Go to
Selections/Float.
16. Go to Effects/Flaming
Pear/SuperBlade Pro and apply the aagm_gold-inset.q5q
preset.
17. Go to Adjust->Brightness and
Contrast->Brightness/Contrast (or Shift +B shortcut)
and use these settings:
Brightness=10 Contrast=0.
18. Go to Selections/Select None.
19. Unhide your Copy of Vector 1 layer
in the layer palette by clicking on the glasses again.
Activate the layer by clicking on it once in the layer
palette.
20. Grab your Object Selection Tool:
and then
switch the foreground and background properties by
clicking on this:

This should have made the text white
filled with no stroke.
21. Right click on the Copy of Vector 1
layer and choose Convert to Raster Layer.
22. Go to Selections/Select All, then go
to Selections/Float.
23. Go to Adjust->Add/Remove Noise
-> Add Noise and use these settings:

24. Hold down the Ctrl key and press the
"y" key 4 times. This is the shortcut for repeating the
last step, and we want to repeat the noise 4 times.
25. Go to Effects/Flaming
Pear/SuperBladePro and apply the l-m-diamondesque
preset.
26. Got to Adjust -> Brightness and
Contrast -> Brightness/Contrast and change the
brightness to 25.
27. Go to Adjust -> Sharpness ->
Unsharp Mask and use these settings:

28. Right click on this layer in the
layer palette and choose Merge/Merge Down.
29. Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow
and use these settings:
Horizontal and Verticle= 2; Opacity= 70;
Blur= 4; color= Black.
30. Add a new raster layer. Apply
sparkles however you like.
31. Add a new raster layer.
32. Floodfill the new layer with
#9E5779.
33. Go to Selections/Select All. Go to
Selections/Modify/Contract and contract by 2.
34. Hit the delete key on your keyboard.
Deselect.
35. Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow
and use these settings:
Horizontal and Verticle = 0; Opacity =
100; Blur = 2.
***TIP ALERT***
Before doing a final save, you can go to Image
->Image Information and click on the "Creator
Information" tab. In the description field, add the
tutorial url (and other info, such as font used). Then
save as a psp file. That information is saved along
with the image. The next time you say (to yourself, of
course...) "I wish I could remember where that
tut is, you will have the
information available in the image itself.
Cool, huh?
Do a final save as a PSP file, then
export as a jpg.
Here is my final result:

And here are a couple more that I made
for Suz of Suz's Place for her extreme
kindness in helping a total stranger with a request from
out of the blue. A fabulous lady!!

I've had many ask how I
made the matching background for this page. If you'd
like to go on and make the background tile I use on this
webset, click here.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial
and will check out the rest of the site.
